July 7, 1985: Padres (50-32) at Pirates (32-47)

Shortstop Sam Khalifa homered and had 3 RBI at Forbes Field where the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the San Diego Padres in 10 innings 9 to 7. 

The game was deadlocked at 7 after nine full innings. Pittsburgh ended up winning it in the 10th inning. After two outs Jim Morrison started the attack as he drew a walk. Khalifa came to the plate and lifted one out of the park for a two run home run resulting in an exciting win for Pittsburgh and a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans. San Diego had 17 hits in the game while Pittsburgh had 12, but Pittsburgh had the more timely hits. 

Rick Reuschel(10-3) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the victory. Goose Gossage(4-2) was charged with the loss in relief. He surrendered 4 runs and 3 hits in 1 and 2/3 innings.
