July 10, 1985: Mets (56-27) at Reds (43-40)

40,189 fans were treated to a fine game at Crosley Field as only one run separated the combatants at game's end. The Cincinnati Reds tallied 4 runs in the 7th inning and won by the slimmest of margins, 4 to 3. 

Cincinnati did all the necessary damage in the 7th inning when they came up with 4 runs on 6 hits. The highlight belonged to Ron Oester who made the crowd happy when he doubled bringing home two baserunners. New York went down quietly in the 9th. 

The victory was credited to Mario Soto(12-7) who went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs. Soto was helped out by John Franco who recorded his 18th save. Sid Fernandez(14-3) was charged with the loss. He surrendered 3 runs and 4 hits in 6 and 2/3 innings.
