July 11, 1985: Dodgers (50-34) at Cubs (49-34)

Fernando Valenzuela dominated striking out 13 Chicago batters as the Los Angeles Dodgers outscored the Chicago Cubs 7 to 0.

Valenzuela(9-6) gave Los Angeles a solid outing. He didn't give up much, just 9 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. Los Angeles rapped out 12 hits for the afternoon.

The losing pitcher was Ray Fontenot(4-8). He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 9 hits and 3 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.

Jim Frey was impressed with Valenzuela and his 13 strikeouts. 'It's tough to generate runs if you can't make contact with the ball.'
