July 8, 1985: Dodgers (48-33) at Pirates (32-48)

Greg Brock slammed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Los Angeles Dodgers won in dramatic fashion over the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 6 to 5 at Forbes Field.

Los Angeles scored the winning runs in the 9th inning plating 2 runs. Ken Landreaux led off the inning for Los Angeles when he drew a walk. Two outs later Brock stepped up to the plate and he cracked a two-run shot. The game was a wild affair with the lead changing hands 5 times.

Tom Niedenfuer(5-4) went 1 inning allowing 2 runs for the victory. Niedenfuer got help from Ken Howell who earned his 6th save. Cecilio Guante(1-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. He allowed 2 runs and 1 hit in 1 inning.

Tommy Lasorda was feeling mighty fine as he answered questions in his office after the game, 'Now that was one fine ending! Did you see how the crowd just sat there in silence after the winning run scored? Here we are celebrating wildly, and the stadium is cloaked in virtual silence. Weird. but GREAT!'
