July 13, 1985: Rangers (43-44) at Yankees (47-39)

Second baseman Toby Harrah hit 2 doubles at YANKEE STADIUM where the Texas Rangers beat the New York Yankees by the score of 6 to 4.

New York was unable to recover after Texas went ahead in the 4th inning as they scored 3 runs on 3 base hits. The big moment was provided by Gary Ward who silenced YANKEE STADIUM as he cracked a two-run shot. New York tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.

Mike Mason(9-6) went 6 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Mason was helped out by Greg Harris who recorded his 16th save. Phil Niekro(7-6) took the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 6 runs in 5 innings.

Bobby Valentine was in a talkative mood in the clubhouse, 'Great game! If only we could win all of the close ones - wouldn't that be nice! Since that's not going to happen, I think I'll savor this one for a little while.'
