July 14, 1985: Dodgers (53-34) at Cubs (49-37)

Bob Welch threw a complete game shutout as the Los Angeles Dodgers topped the Chicago Cubs by a score of 2 to 0 at WRIGLEY FIELD.

Welch(10-5) was solid in the win. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 8 hits and no walks in 9 innings. Chicago had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.

Dennis Eckersley(12-5) ended up with the loss. He was unable to control the Los Angeles offense and allowed 10 hits and 4 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.

'We just made a lot of mistakes, mostly mental,' Jim Frey said. 'It's bad enough when the other team beats you, but when you start beating yourselves, that's really bad.'
