July 14, 1985: Red Sox (55-33) at Mariners (44-44)

Jackie Gutierrez connected with a 'big fly' and had 4 RBI as the Boston Red Sox defeated the ice-cold Seattle Mariners 12 to 7 at The Kingdome.

Gutierrez led the offense for Boston. He laced a base-knock bringing in a run in the 4th inning, lost the ball over the fence for three runs in the 7th inning and delivered a one-base hit in the 9th inning. Boston had 17 hits for the afternoon while Seattle had 11.

The winning pitcher was Bob Ojeda(7-5) who allowed no runs in 4 and 2/3 innings. Jim Beattie(3-7) suffered the loss in relief. He allowed 4 hits and no walks in 1/3 of an inning.

Boston extended their winning streak to 6 games. 'It seems we can't lose these days', John McNamara volunteered after the game. Then after a moment to reflect he lamented, 'Oh great! Now I've gone and jinxed us!'
