July 24, 1985: Cardinals (55-38) at Giants (39-56)

In a great finish the St. Louis Cardinals came back in the top of the ninth and held on to win over the San Francisco Giants by a score of 4 to 1 at CANDLESTICK PARK.

St. Louis came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning when they scored 4 runs on 2 hits. The game was a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.

Bill Campbell(3-2) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory. Jeff Lahti got the save, his 16th. Mike Krukow(4-13) was tagged with the loss. It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned run in his 8 and 1/3 innings of work.

Whitey Herzog was very happy after the game, 'It's great to come back and win it in your last at bats! Our guys just wouldn't give up. And did you see the fans - one minute they're laughing and screaming down all sorts of unprintable stuff at our guys - the next minute - SILENCE! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win this afternoon!'
