August 3, 1985: Padres (57-48) at Astros (49-55)

In a dramatic ending the San Diego Padres staged a comeback and held on to win over the Houston Astros by the count of 10 to 3.

An offensive explosion by San Diego in the 9th inning ended any Houston hopes for a victory as they showed no mercy on Houston blasting them for 10 hits and plating 10 runs. The biggest moment was provided by Jerry Royster who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he laced a one-base hit plating two runs. San Diego out-hit Houston for the game, 14 hits to 8.

Roy Lee Jackson(2-0) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the win. Dave Smith(2-3) took the loss in relief. He was unable to retire a batter giving up 5 hits and 1 walk.

'The only way this one could have been better', said Jackson, 'was if we had played it at home.'
