The San Diego Padres readily handled Houston Astros by a score of 8 to 4 at Colt Stadium. 

San Diego promptly took the lead in their half of the first when they tallied 3 runs on 3 hits. The biggest moment was provided by Kevin McReynolds who silenced Colt Stadium as he tripled with all three baserunners touching home. Overall San Diego out-hit Houston 16 to 9. 

Lamarr Hoyt(11-10) picked up the victory, allowing 4 runs in 7 innings. Bob Knepper(13-10) suffered the loss. He gave up 7 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings of work.
