August 5, 1985: White Sox (52-51) at Yankees (61-44)

The New York Yankees nipped the Chicago White Sox 3 to 2 at YANKEE STADIUM in a hard fought contest. 

Chicago lost it in the 8th inning when New York did all their damage with 3 runs on 3 base hits. Rickey Henderson opened up the inning nicely when he drew a walk. Dan Pasqua next to the plate and he stroked a base-hit. Don Mattingly then tripled plating two runs. Dave Winfield stepped in and he ripped a base-knock scoring the final run of the inning. Neither team was able to score until the 6th inning. 

The win was credited to Rich Bordi(7-0) who went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing 1 run. Dave Righetti recorded the save, his 24th. The loss was charged to Gene Nelson(10-12).
