August 7, 1985: Cubs (57-50) at Cardinals (64-42)

The Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals locked up in an exciting one-run game at BUSCH STADIUM. The final score was the Chicago Cubs 6, the St. Louis Cardinals 5. 

Keith Moreland had a big day against St. Louis. He doubled which plated a run in the 1st inning, cracked a two-run shot in the 5th inning and laced a base-knock in the 7th inning. St. Louis had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. 

Dennis Eckersley(14-7) picked up the victory, allowing 4 runs in 8 innings. Lee Smith recorded his 26th save. Joaquin Andujar(9-10) was charged with the loss. He allowed Chicago 6 runs in 5 innings of work. 

When questioned about the loss, Whitey Herzog said, 'The fans got to see an exciting game out there tonight. Unfortunately, we couldn't get it done this time. Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse with all the smiles.'
