Gorman Thomas homered and had 3 RBI as the Seattle Mariners outscored the Oakland Athletics in 12 innings 5 to 4. 

The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings. Seattle won the game in the 12th inning. Thomas cracked a solo homerun giving Seattle the victory as 47,470 happy fans celebrated wildly. Seattle banged out 12 hits on the night. 

The win was credited to Frank Wills(4-8) who went 1 inning allowing no runs. Keith Atherton(3-3) absorbed the loss in relief. He allowed 1 run and 1 hit in 1/3 of an inning.
