Joe Cowley took a no-hitter into the 6th inning and first baseman Don Mattingly had 4 hits and 2 RBI as the New York Yankees bested the Boston Red Sox 7 to 1 at FENWAY PARK. 

Cowley(9-8) delivered a fine performance for New York. He was reached for 4 hits and 3 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings. The right-handed Cowley lost his chance for a no-hitter when Dwight Evans singled with two outs in the 6th inning. New York had 11 hits for the afternoon while Boston had 4. 

Roger Clemens(14-6) was hit with the loss. He allowed 3 runs and 6 hits in 6 innings.
