August 15, 1985: Expos (55-61) at Cubs (57-58)

Bryn Smith had an impressive outing and shortstop Hubie Brooks had 4 hits and 4 RBI as the Montreal Expos man-handled the ice-cold Chicago Cubs - the final score was 12 to 1.

The Chicago fans didn't appreciate the big day Brooks had. He delivered a single in the 1st inning, lined a base-hit bringing home two baserunners in the 4th inning, doubled in the 8th inning and doubled plating two runs in the 9th inning. Montreal kept the scorekeepers busy in the 9th inning with 4 runs on 4 hits. Offensively, Montreal was a juggernaut. They scored in 6 separate innings.

Smith(8-12) got the victory, allowing 1 run for the game. Steve Trout(11-12) ended up with the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 10 hits and 5 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.

'Smith pitched a gem of a game', Jim Frey recounted. 'He kept our batters off balance the entire game.'
