August 18, 1985: Mets (79-39) at Pirates (52-65)

Denny Gonzalez slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI at Forbes Field as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the New York Mets 7 to 5. 

New York never recovered after Pittsburgh took the lead in the bottom of the 7th inning as they scored 2 runs on 1 base hits. The key at-bat was by Gonzalez who excited the crowd when he popped a two-run clout over the fence. Pittsburgh banged out 13 hits on the afternoon. 

Don Robinson(5-2) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory. Robinson got help from Cecilio Guante who earned his 23rd save. Dwight Gooden(16-4) ended up with the loss. He got hammered, allowing 12 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings. 

This win by Pittsburgh continues their recent hot streak. In their last ten games, they have a record of 9-1. For the season, they are 52-65. New York has a record of 79-39 after the loss.
