August 20, 1985: Tigers (69-50) at A's (48-72)

Todd Crane had a strong outing and Alan Trammell went deep and had 2 RBI at OAKLAND COLISEUM as the Detroit Tigers beat the Oakland Athletics 5 to 1.

Oakland was unable to recover after Detroit went ahead in the top of the 3rd inning with 2 runs on 4 base hits. After an out was recorded, Lou Whitaker initiated the scoring spurt when he delivered a base-hit. Trammell came to the plate and blasted a two-run home run. That was all the runs Crane(12-8) needed. Detroit totaled 13 hits on the night.

Tommy John(1-4) was the losing pitcher. He got hammered, allowing 9 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings. 'Crane pitched a gem of a game', Jackie Moore recounted. 'He kept our batters off balance the entire game.'
