August 21, 1985: Dodgers (72-49) at Phillies (51-69)

Orel Hershiser came through with a solid 9 innings as the Los Angeles Dodgers bested the Philadelphia Phillies 9 to 2 at Shibe Park. 

Los Angeles took the lead for keeps in the 6th inning with 3 runs on 4 base hits. Bill Madlock started the inning off right when he doubled. Pedro Guerrero next to the plate and he stroked a one-base hit plating a run. Mike Marshall then singled. Greg Brock followed, but he was set down on strikes. One out later, Bill Russell stepped up to the plate and he laced a single driving home another two teammates. Russell took second on the throw. Los Angeles totaled 12 hits on the night. 

Hershiser(15-8) was the winner allowing 2 runs for the game. Charles Hudson(4-11) was charged with the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 10 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings. 

With the win Los Angeles now has a record of a division leading 72-49. With the loss, Philadelphia has a record of 3-7 lately, 51-69, worst in the division overall.
