The New York Yankees bested the California Angels by a 5 to 2 score at ANAHEIM STADIUM. 

In the top of the 4th inning New York scored 4 runs when they had 4 base hits. The highlight belonged to Butch Wynegar who silenced the stadium when he doubled scoring two baserunners. Both teams' bats went to sleep after the 4th inning with no runs scored after that point. 

Phil Niekro(11-8) allowed 2 runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory. Niekro got help from Dave Righetti who was credited with his 29th save. Kirk McCaskill(13-12) suffered the loss. He got hammered, allowing 9 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.
