Whitaker provided much of the offense. He doubled in the 1st inning, lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in the 3rd inning and smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the 9th inning. Detroit managed 9 hits in their victory. Morris(14-8) got the win allowing 5 runs in 7 innings.
Morris was helped out by Willie Hernandez who recorded his 30th save. Chris Codiroli(5-15) was charged with the loss. Detroit scored big getting 6 runs off him in 5 and 1/3 innings.
