Dale Murphy slammed a homerun at FULTON CTY STADIUM as the Atlanta Braves beat the Chicago Cubs in 12 innings by the count of 5 to 4. 

The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Atlanta won the hard fought contest in the 12th inning. Claudell Washington laced a one-base hit. Rafael Ramirez followed and he grounded into a double play. Murphy then hit a bases-empty home run resulting in a mighty exciting win for Atlanta and the 29,987 home town fans in attendance. Atlanta totaled 9 hits on the night. 

Gene Garber(1-2) went 3 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Lary Sorensen(1-3) ended up with the loss in relief. He allowed 2 hits and no walks in 2 innings.
