August 23, 1985: Cubs (62-60) at Reds (65-57)

50,099 fans were treated to a fine game at Crosley Field as only one run separated the combatants at game's end. The Chicago Cubs won by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2. 

The game was decided in the 8th inning. After an out was recorded, Jody Davis lofted a solo-blast 'downtown'. Lee Smith was perfect in the ninth giving him his 30th save on the season. 

The win went to Dennis Eckersley(16-8) who allowed 2 runs in 8 innings. Tom Browning(12-11) ended up with the loss. He pitched 8 innings giving up 11 hits and no walks.
