August 23, 1985: Twins (48-74) at Red Sox (75-47)

At FENWAY PARK, the Boston faithful were treated to an intriguing pitcher's duel. Oil Can Boyd(13-7) finally bested his Minnesota counterpart, Mike Smithson(9-14), by the score of 2 to 1.

In the bottom of the 6th inning Boston scored 2 runs when they came up with 4 base hits. They would be enough to earn the win. Minnesota threatened in the 9th but Boston was able to put down the rally.

Bob Stanley gained credit for his 34th save. The loss was charged to Smithson. With this win, Boston has a 75-47 record. They have been 6-4 lately. Still in a bad slump, with this loss, Minnesota is 1-9 lately and 48-74, worst in the division on the year.
