August 23, 1985: Giants (53-68) at Phillies (51-71)

Bob Brenly smashed 2 homeruns as the San Francisco Giants outscored the Philadelphia Phillies 10 to 5.

Brenly was unconscious out there. While Philadelphia pitching was serving softballs up there for him to hit, the Philadelphia fans were serving up some hardball barbs when he entered the batter's box. But he just used it as fuel for the fire. He bombed a two-run dinger in the 1st inning, emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun in the 7th inning and doubled in the 9th inning. Both teams totaled 12 hits on the night.

The victory went to Atlee Hammaker(15-6) who went 6 innings, allowing 5 runs. Mark Davis was credited with his 16th save. Dave Rucker(2-5) was given the loss. He surrendered 7 hits and 1 walk in 6 and 2/3 innings.

Brenly said, 'It was just all timing. I had pretty good rhythm at the plate tonight. You've got to take advantage of mistakes when you can. A couple pitches were definitely up a little bit - right in my zone.'
