August 31, 1985: Astros (61-67) at Cardinals (79-50)

At BUSCH STADIUM, the St. Louis faithful were treated to an intriguing pitcher's duel. Bob Knepper(16-12) finally bested his St. Louis counterpart, Danny Cox(7-11), by the score of 2 to 1.

Houston wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning scoring a single run on 2 hits. St. Louis threatened in the 9th but Houston was able to put down the rally.

Dave Smith preserved the game for Knepper, recording his his 24th save. The losing pitcher was Cox. He gave up just 2 runs and 4 hits in 8 innings.

Houston now has a record of 61-67. St. Louis will hope that this loss is only a 'blip' on their recent 8-2 run - and not a start of a new trend.
