August 31, 1985: Phillies (54-75) at Dodgers (78-52)

Right fielder Mike Marshall had 2 base hits and Fernando Valenzuela didn't allow a hit until the 6th inning as the amazing Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 2 to 1 at DODGER STADIUM. 

Valenzuela(14-9) gave Los Angeles a solid outing. He allowed only 5 hits and 2 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings. The left-handed Valenzuela had his no-hit bid broken up by Tom Foley who singled with nobody out in the 6th inning. Philadelphia threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short. 

Tom Niedenfuer was credited with his 20th save. Kevin Gross(4-13) suffered the loss. He surrendered 2 runs and 4 hits in 7 innings.
