September 1, 1985: Mets (85-45) at Giants (57-72)

In a close game the strong New York Mets got by the San Francisco Giants by the score of 4 to 2. 

New York came up with 2 runs in the top of the 4th inning. Gary Carter opened up the inning nicely when he drew a walk. George Foster followed and he tripled plating a run. Howard Johnson then hit a deep fly scoring the final run of the inning. New York had 10 hits overall, while San Francisco had 3. 

The win was credited to Sid Fernandez(19-7) who went 8 innings allowing 2 runs. Fernandez got help from Roger McDowell who was credited with his 20th save. Dave Lapoint(5-16) was the loser. He was hit hard and gave up 10 hits and 4 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.
