Tony Gwynn had 5 hits and scored 4 times and Lamarr Hoyt tossed a complete game as the San Diego Padres defeated the New York Mets by the score of 10 to 3 at JACK MURPHY STADIUM. 

San Diego wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning when they tallied 2 runs on 2 hits. The big moment was provided by Graig Nettles who brought the crowd to their feet when he blasted a two-run home run. San Diego totaled 15 hits on the night.
