In a good matchup it was the Boston Red Sox 6, the Texas Rangers 3 at ARLINGTON STADIUM. 

Boston had 3 runs cross the plate in the top of the 5th inning with the help of 3 hits. The highlight belonged to Bill Buckner who quieted the home crowd when he lined a single which was good for two runs. Al Nipper(10-10) got help from Bob Stanley who pitched great and earned his 35th save. 

The loss was charged to Charlie Hough(11-13). He got hammered, allowing 11 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.
