The game was won by Cleveland with a run in the top of the 9th inning. Julio Franco drew a walk. Brook Jacoby was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out. Andre Thornton got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Joe Carter followed next and he slapped a one-base hit. Pat Tabler stepped into the box and doubled scoring the run. Vern Ruhle(6-13) got relief help from Jerry Reed who was excellent in relief and gained credit for his 2nd save.
Luis Sanchez(2-5) absorbed the loss in relief. He surrendered 2 hits and 1 walk in 1 inning.
