John Grubb hit a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Detroit Tigers beat the Boston Red Sox by a score of 9 to 6. 

Detroit took the lead for keeps in the 6th inning when they came up with 2 runs on 2 hits. The highlight belonged to Grubb who deflated the mood of the partisan fans when he clubbed a two-run home run. Detroit had 15 hits overall, while Boston had 10. 

Dan Petry(15-11) picked up the victory, allowing 5 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings. Willie Hernandez got the save, his 33rd. Oil Can Boyd(15-10) was tagged with the loss.
