Juan Samuel had 4 hits and 5 RBI and John Denny retired 10 batters on strikeouts as the Chicago Cubs were badly beaten by the Philadelphia Phillies, 11 to 1. 

Samuel was in a groove all day. He stroked a single in the 3rd inning, cracked a solo homerun in the 5th inning, banged out a one-base hit knocking in a run in the 6th inning and tripled with all three baserunners touching home in the 7th inning. Philadelphia had a total of 15 hits for the game. 

The win went to Denny(11-13) who allowed 1 run in the game. Ray Fontenot(8-15) was hit with the loss. He allowed 3 runs and 7 hits in 5 innings.
