September 23, 1985: Tigers (90-60) at Red Sox (87-63)

In a game for the baseball purist, Roger Clemens(16-11) and Frank Tanana(14-10) squared off in a tense pitching duel, Boston Red Sox finally emerged victorious over Detroit Tigers, 2 to 1.

Boston tallied 2 runs in the 2nd inning when they had 4 base hits. That early scoring was all that Clemens needed. Detroit threatened in the 9th but Boston was able to put down the rally.

Bob Stanley gained credit for his 37th save.
