Willie McGee had 3 base hits as the very strong St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 7 to 4 at BUSCH STADIUM. 

St. Louis had 5 runs cross the plate in the 7th inning with the help of 4 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Tommy Herr who came through for the home fans when he doubled bringing home two baserunners. Pittsburgh had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short. 

Ricky Horton(10-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing no runs. Jose Deleon(10-17) was given the loss. He gave up 7 hits and 8 walks in 6 innings.
