48,029 fans watched an exciting game at ROYALS STADIUM. The Kansas City Royals topped the hopeless California Angels by the slimmest of margins, 6 to 5. 

The score was tied at 4 after nine. Kansas City was victorious in the 15th inning. Lonnie Smith drew a walk. George Brett stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk. Jorge Orta then doubled resulting in an exciting win for Kansas City and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans. Kansas City ended up with 13 hits for the game while California had 10. 

The victory was credited to Joe Beckwith(11-6) who went 4 and 2/3 innings, allowing no runs. Rafael Lugo(10-8) was hit with the loss in relief.
