John Tudor allowed Whitey Herzog to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game and right fielder Andy Van Slyke hit one over the fence and had 3 RBI at BUSCH STADIUM where the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs by the score of 9 to 1. 

Tudor(23-7) had a strong outing. He didn't allow much, just 4 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings. St. Louis finished with 16 hits in the victory. 

Scott Sanderson(13-10) was given the loss. He gave up 6 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings of work.
