Shortstop Bobby Meacham had 2 base hits as the New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers by a score of 6 to 4 at TIGER STADIUM. 

New York went ahead for good in the 2nd inning plating one baserunner. Dave Winfield drew a walk. Don Baylor next to the plate and he laced a base-hit. Willie Randolph then would hit into a force play scoring the run. New York rapped out 8 hits for the night. 

Dennis Rasmussen(8-5) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 and 1/3 innings and allowing 3 runs. Dave Righetti recorded the save, his 31st. Walt Terrell(16-9) absorbed the loss.
