Fernando Valenzuela recorded a complete game shutout at SHEA STADIUM as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the New York Mets 3 to 0. 

Valenzuela(1-0) was virtually untouchable. He allowed just 4 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings. Los Angeles managed only 6 hits on the afternoon. 

Dwight Gooden(0-1) suffered the loss. He surrendered 2 runs and 5 hits in 7 innings.
