American League Opener: Texas Rangers at Baltimore Orioles. Game 3: Today's game was a serious pitching duel featuring Charlie Hough for the Rangers and Storm Davis for the Orioles. Davis got through the first uneventful despite a two walk to Pete O'Brien. Hough gave up a solo shot to DH Larry Sheets with 1 out in the bottom of the first. He would also give up a 2-out Single to Eddie Murray. Giving the Orioles a 1-0 lead. Hough would only give up on more hit the rest of the game and that was a 2-out Double to Rick Dempsey in the 5th. Hough would complete the game, pitching 8 innings, giving up 1 run on 3 hits, walking 1, and striking out 6. Storm Davis was not a good as Hough today, but the Ranger offense could not take advantage of Davis and his wildness. The closest they would come to scoring a run was in the 4th. The Ranger had 1st and 2nd with one out, but Davis was able to get George Wright to bounce into an inning ending double play. Davis would get the first shutout of the year.
