The Dodgers would look to take game 2 of the season while taking on the Astros at the Astrodome. They would send lefthander Jerry Reuss to the mound and the Astros would counter with Joe Niekro.
The Dodgers would score early and often as Niekro looked rusty and lost. Mariano Duncan would lead off the game with a walk and would then steal 2nd, he would move over to 3rd on a 2-out Single by Pedro Guerrero. Dunacan would score on a clutch Single by Mike Marshall. Mike Scioscia would end the inning by flying out to Terry Puhl. In the 3rd inning is where Niekro's ineffectiveness would get him into trouble. Guerrero would hit a 1-out Solo Homer. He looked like he was going to get out of the inning but with 2-outs he would Walk Scioscia and Greg Brock would Single. Dave Anderson would follow that up with a 3-run Homer to put the Dodgers up 5-0. Reuss would groundout to Thon to end the inning. The Dodgers would add one more in the 6th when Niekro would come unglued again as he would walk Reuss and Landreaux and with 2-outs Pedro Guerrero would Single home Reuss. That would end Niekros night.
Meanwhile Jerry Reuss was crusing through 5 innings the Astros could only muster 2 hits. In the 6th the Astros finallt scratch a run across. Bill Doran would lead off with a single and pitcher Jeff Calhoun would SAC him over to 2nd. A Dickie Thon grounds out to Duncan and Doran would head to 3rd. Glen Davis would Single scoring Doran and now the Astros are down 6-1.
The Dodgers would get 1 off of Calhoun in the 8th when Reuss would walk for the second time, Duncan would Single moving him to 3rd. Bill Madlock would Single to score Reuss, Calhoun would escape by getting Guerrero to hit into an inning ending double play. The score is now 7-1 Dodgers. The Astros would get 1 in the 9th, Dickie Thon would lead off with a Single and with 2 outs Jose Cruz would Single him home. Jerry Mumphrey would Double but Cruz hold at 3rd. Reuss would get Terry Puhl to flyout to end the game
