April 10, 1985 Game 19: Padres at Giants

There was a close one at Candlestick today. For the second straight day it would be a one run win. Dave LaPoint for the Giants was masterful on the mound as he kept the Padres bats in check all day long. The only thing that Eric Show did wrong was he had to face Dave LaPoint. The Giants would score first on back to back Doubles in the 1st by Chili Davis and Jeff Leonard. They would get 1 more in the 3rd When Dan Gladden stole second and Manny Trillo would advance him to 3rd with a SAC bunt. Gladden would then score on a Chili Davis SACFLY to put the Giants up 2-0. That would be all LaPoint would need as the only run that the Padres would get was a solo Home Run by Tony Gwynn in the 4th. They would threaten in the 8th when they would load the bases with 2 outs and Manager Dick Williams decides to pull Lapoint and bring in Mark Davis. Davis would get Kevin McReynolds to gound out to Jose Uribe to end the inning. Davis would send the Padres down in the 9th to secure is 1st save and a Padres win. Final score 2-1 Giants
