April 9, 1985 Game 14: Braves at Phillies

The Phillies got rocked in their opener against the Braves as Dale Murphy decided to open the season by decimating the Phillie pitchers. He would go 2-4 with a Grand Slam and 6 RBI.  Rick Mahler got the start for the Braves and Charlie Hudson was a last minute replacement for Steve Carlton.  There has been no word for the Phillies on why Carlton was scratch from todays start. The Braves opened the game by getting 2 on a Dale Murphy Triple scoring Rafael Ramirez and Brad Komminski.  The Phillies would get 3 in the bottom half of the inning when Mike Schmidt would Double home Juan Samuel and Von Hayes, Schmidt would later score on a Ozzie Virgil Double. At the end of the 1st it was 3-2 in favor of the Phillies. The Braves would get 4 more in the 4th when Rick Mahler would Triple that would score 2 and they would put up 2 more in the inning giving the Braves a 6-3 lead. The Braves would put this game out of reach in the 6th when they would put up 6 runs.  Dale Murphy would provide the highlight with a Grand Slam of off Don Carmen. The Phillies would get 1 more in the 9th when pinch hitter Darren Daulton would hit a solo Homer off off Gene Garber. The Final score was a 12-4 Braves win
