April 10, 1985 Game 22: A's at Mariners

The Athletics and the Mariners were poised to bust out the big bats today as each team would send two young lefties to the hill. The A's would start Bill Krueger and the Mariners would start Mark Langston who would finished last season 2nd in the RoY vote behind teammate Alvin Davis. Langston had trouble finding the strikezone as he would walk 5 and give up 7 hits in his 6 innings of work. Krueger on the other hand did not overpower Mariner hitters but was able to get crucial outs whenever he got into a jam. In the 1st the A's got back to back homers from Dwayne Murphy and Dave Kingman. Murphy would hit his with Carney Lansford on and Kingman a solo shot. That would give the A's a 3-0 lead. The Mariners would get 1 in the bottom half of the inning when Phil Bradley would Single and then steal 2nd, Alvin Davis would then Single him home making the score 3-1. In the 2nd inning the A's would get 2 more When Dave Collins would rip a Double scoring Mike Davis and Donnie Hill both of whom walked. The score now is 5-1 Athletics. I the 6th the A's would tack on one more in the 6th when Dave Collins would hit one into the gap in right center, Al Cowens appeared to have the catch made and then dropped it and Mike Davis would come around and score. Collins would end up an 2nd and Cowens would be charged with a 2 base error. The Mariners would also get one in the 6th on a Phil Bradley solo homer.
