April 11, 1985 Game 23: Yankees at Red Sox

There was a wild one in the rubber match at Fenway Park today.  The two rivals split the first 2 games of this series and each team was looking to a couple of youngsters to win this series The Yankees would send  Dennis Rasmussen up against Roger Clemens.  Red Sox fans are looking for a big season out of Clemens after a solid Rookie campaign that saw him go 9-4 with a 4.32 ERA .

They would both score 3 in the 1st inning.  The Yankees would get 1 in the 4th and 5th. The red Sox would get one in the 5th to make the score 5-4 Yankees.  The Red Sox would get 3 in the 7th and take the lead for good.  Jackie Gutierrez's 2-run homer would be the go ahead runs.  The Yanks would sneak one across in the 9th thanks to another Red Sox error.

Tony Armas would smack 2 homers in this game and knock in 3 for the Red Sox.  Ken Griffey would go 2-5 with 3 RBI would proivide most of the offense for the Yankees.

Ricky Henderson in his first game of the year tormented Rich Gedman by stealing 2 bases and Gedman would make 2 throwing errors trying to gun him down..

Both starters were innefective today.  Clemens was only slightly better in the win.
