April 11, 1985 Game 25: Twins at Angels

The Angles were looking for Jim Slaton to get them back on track after a 9-1 beating they took yesterday.  The Twins would send John Butcher to prevent that from happening and to take the opening series.

The Twins would get on the board first in the 1stWhen Slaton would load the bases and then would Stenhouse to score Hatcher.  Gaetti would hit a sharp grounder to Schofield who could not field it cleanly and would be charged and error and Hrbek would score.  THe Angels would answer back with a run of the own in the bottom half of xthe inning.  Pettis would get a lead off walk and would steal 2nd. A Carew Single to rightfield would score Pettis. At the end of the 1st it was 2-1 Twins.

The Twins would add to their lead in the 4th, when Teufel would hit a solo shot off of Slaton.  Then Laudner would Single and Hatcher would Double putting runners on 2nd and 3rd. Hrbek would lace a single up the middle to score Launer and making the score 4-1 Twins.

Slaton would finally settle into a grooveand not allow a another Twins run.  Butcher meanwhile was crusing along until the 7th when he ran into a little trouble.  A Schofield  Single anf then a Pettis Triple put the Angles down 4-2and were looking to tie the game.   Downing would then Single scoring Pettis.  Butcher was able to get out of the Jam and the Twins lead was now one. At the end of the 7th it was 4-3 Twins.

The 8th would go without incident and Ron Davis would come on in the 9th and earn his first save.
