April 12, 1985 Game 34 Expos (1-1) at Cubs (0-2)

Dennis Eckersley pitched a gem at Wrigley today only to have it blown in the 9th. Bryn Smith would pitch for the Expos making his 2nd start of the year. HE wouls struggle a bit but the Cubs were unable to take advantage.

The Cubs would get 1 in the 1st Moreland would single scoring Matthews. Dernier would attempt to score but Winningham's throw would cut him down. Cubs lead 1-0.

The Expos would take the lead in the 4th. A Dawson single would score Raines and Francona would hit a SACFLY to Dernier to score Winningham giving the Expos a 2-1 lead. BUt Smith would not be able to hold the lead.

The Cubs would get 2 in the 5th to take back the lead. Sandberg would hit a 2 run HR, his first of the season. Giving the Cubs a 3-2 lead. That is where the lead would stay until the 9th.

Eckersley who was brilliant all game left after the 8th and Smith would try and earn the save. But Winning ham and Dawson had other plans. Winningham would lead off with a single and then steal second. Dawson would single him home tying the game at 3. The Cubs were determined to win this one. Moreland would single with the bases loaded and 1 out to score Sandberg giving the Cubs a 4-3 win.
