April 19, 1985 Game 108: Red Sox (5-4) at White Sox (4-3)

I have to admit I was a little surprised at this game.  John McNamara wound send Mike Trujillo up against Britt Burns.  Trujillo was making his first major league start and Burns is an established major leaguer looking to rebound after a dismal season last year.

The Red Sox attacked Burns in the 1st.  Boggs leads off the game with a walk, advances to 2nd as Evans hits one deep into the hole between 1st and 2nd and is thrown out.  Rice singles, Boggs scores and it's 1-0 Red Sox.  In the 3rd Burns runs into more trouble as Rice hits a 2 run homer his 5th of the year to make it 3-0 Red Sox.   Burns would give up another homer in the 4th this time to Armas with nobody on to make it 4-0. Trujillo meanwhile is cruising along with out the White Sox even coming close to a scoring opportunity.

The White Sox would finally get to Trujillo in the 7th or so they thought.  Boston would double, Cruz walks, Guillen bounces out to Buckner and the runners move up.  Law hits a sharp grounder to Buckner that he boots for an error and Boston scores to make it 4-1.  That would be all they would get off of Trujillo.  Stanley would work the next 2 innings and pick up his league leading 4th save.

Tony LaRussa was furious after the game stating his team look flat and not ready to play, at one point in the interview he yelled out "The local Kiwanas club could have beaten us today!"

The Final Score 4-1 Red Sox
