The Angels have started to play well and are putting some games between them and the rest of the west. They send Jim Slaton out today and the A's send Don Sutton. It was a slugfest at the big A and I hope the fans were looking for a game where the pitching was atrocious.
The A's get 1 in the 2nd as Heath triples and Davis doubles him home to make it 1-0. They would add to their lead in the 4th as Heath hits a 2 run homer off of Slaton to make it 3-0. But that lead would last long as the Angles touch Don Sutton for 4 in the bottom of the 4th. Jones ties the game with a 3 run homer and DeCinces gives them the lead with a 2-out solo shot to make it 4-3 Angels.
The A's regain the lead in the 5th Collins singles and Bochte smacks a 2 run homer to make it 5-4 A's. Murphy then singles and heath hits his second triple of the game to score him and now it's 6-4 A's. They would add another in the 6th when Hill doubles and then scores on a Lansford 2-out double to make it 7-4.
The Angels would not go quietly as they pound Sutton in the 6th. Downing singles, DeCinces is hit by a pitch, Grich doubles and Downing scores. Sutton walks Boone to load the bases. Carew singles and DeCinces scores. Beniquez singles and Grich scores. Jones bounces into a FC-3 and Boone scores. Jackson singles and that scores Carew and the Angels lead it 9-7.
IN the 8th Hill doubles off Cliburn and Collins singles and Hill scores easily to make it 9-8. They would tie it in the 9th as Moore blows the save. Bochte singles, Kingman gets on via an error by Moore. Heath singles to load the bases. Hill hits a nubber back to the mound and Moore stumbles after it and commits his 2nd error of the inning and Bochte scores and its 9-9.
In the 10th the A's look to lock this up as Lansford hits a solo shot off of Lugo and the A's have the lead 10-9 and Jay Howell comes in to get the save. But the Angels counter and Grich singles, Boone singles an error by Griffen on a Schofield grounder loads the bases. Carew hits a deep SACFLY to right and Grich scores to tie it at 10. Beniques comes up with a bloop single to score Boone and the game is over and the Angels get an 11-10 victory. Lugo earns his 5th win of the year.
