April 23, 1985 Game 157: Athletics (5-8) at Angels (9-4)

If you game out to the ballpark today I hope that your were not looking for good pitching, because these two teams decided that pitching was optional.  The A's would send strikezone challenged Tim Birtsas to the hill today against Kirk McCaskill.

The Angels get 1 in the 1st.  Pettis walks and steals 2nd and would score on a DeCinces triple to make it 1-0.  The Angels go up 3-0 in the 4th as Jackson, Downing and Boone all draw walks from Birtsas.  Grich hits into a 4-3 FC and Jackson scores.  Pettis hits a SACFLY to Henderson and Downing tags up and scores.

In the 5th Heath get the A's on the board with a solo shot off of McCaskill to make it 3-1.  THe A's explode in the 6th to take control of the game. Hill singles, Griffen walks, Henderson triples and that scores both.  Lansford then hits a smoking grounder to 3rd that DeCinces can't handle and is charged with an error and Henderson scores.  Murphy the grounds out to Grich and Lasnford move up to 2nd, Baker singles and Lansford scores from 2nd, Heath singles and davis doubles scoring Baker and it is now 6-3 Athletics.

The Angles make it 6-4 when Downing hits a solo shot off of Steve McCatty.  The A's get some more in the 9th. Griffen hits a 2 run homer off of Sanchez. Henderson singles, Lansford singles, murphy singles scoring Henderson, baker then doubles scoring Lansford and it is now 10-4 A's.

The Final Score 10-4 Athletics
