April 24, 1985 Game 175: Cubs (5-8) at Pirates (8-5)

The Cubs are taking on the surprising Pirates at Three Rivers today and they send Steve Trout to the hill who has lost his fisrt 3 starts. The Pirates send Rick Rhoden who so far this season looks like he would rather be golfing.

The Pirates looked like this would be a breeze for them as they get on the board in the 1st. Ray doubles Brown singles scoring ray and its's 1-0 Pirates. The Cubs tie it up in the 2nd when Durham doubles and Cey singles him home.

The Cubs open the flood gates in the 3rd. Lopes singles and steals 2nd and advances to 3rd when Ortiz's throw ends up in centerfield, Sandberg walks, Matthews singles and Lopes scores. Hatcher is safe at 2nd due to a 2BE on Orsulak and Sandberg scores. Cey singles and that scores Durham and Hatcher. Sandberg comes up again and this time with the bases loaded and 2-outs. And Crushes a Rhoden pitch for a Grand Slam and the Cubs are up 10-1.

The Cubs add to their lead in the 4th. Durham is walked , Davis singles with 2-outs and Durham scores. They also add one in the 6th when Sandberg is walked with the bases loaded to score Davis and the score is now 12-1.

In the 7th the Pirates get two when Trout walks Candelaria, Khalifa singles, Ray singles and Candelaria scores. Brown singles and Khalifa scores and at the end of 7 its 12-3 Cubs. In the 8th the Pirates add another. Lezcano doubles, Ortiz singles and runners are at the corners. Orsulak bounces into a 5-3 FC and Lezcano scores to make 12-4.

The Cubs didn't need more runs but Matthews added more with a 3 run homer in the 9th for a 15-4 lead. Trout finishes the game for his 1st win.
